International Mathematical Olympiad 1999 (Bucharest, Romania) Scores

At the 1999 IMO held in Bucharest, Romania, 453 contestants from 81 countries competed (counting 3 contestants with scores of ‘– – – – – -’). 38 gold medals were awarded to those scoring at least 28; 70 silver medals were awarded to those scoring from 19 to 27; and 118 bronze medals were awarded to those scoring from 12 to 18.

The maximum individual score possible was 42 (which no‐one attained). The mean individual score was 13.236, with a standard deviation of 8.684. The following table shows how many contestants attained each possible score.
